What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked? 

Knives Out follows the classic whodunit formula, beginning with a mysterious death and a cast of suspicious characters with hidden motives. We have an eccentric family, a loyal housekeeper, a suspicious business partner, and a charismatic outsider detective. The film expertly drops clues, misdirects, and builds suspense while revealing the layers of the mystery, like peeling an onion. The also film injects humor into the suspenseful plot through witty dialogue and quirky characters. Blanc's flamboyant personality and the family's eccentricities provide comedic relief without diminishing the seriousness of the investigation. This blend of humor and mystery makes the film engaging and refreshing.

 

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that have that did not appeal to you, and you are thinking of not filming for your final task?

Knives Out primarily takes place within the confines of the Thrombey mansion, relying on flashbacks and character interviews to explore the past. While this creates a focused and suspenseful atmosphere, it might lack the visual dynamism and broader societal contexts we envision for our final task. And relying heavily on the trope of the genius detective solving the case single-handedly could feel like a cliché. We might consider exploring a more collaborative investigation or giving other characters agencies to uncover the truth.

  What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? "Archive 81" bombards its audience with confusing and constantly changing imagery. This adds a level of mystery and unknown to the already cryptic film. There are scenes of many TV screens broadcasting an unknown individual talking to panning an anonymous face. From the start alone, the title sequence tells the audience that there are many things for them to learn as they watch the film. The sequence is full of disarray and holds are dark atmosphere.
